Tall, spiny, and straight out of a lost world — Alluaudia procera looks like something you’d find on a dinosaur safari. Native to Madagascar’s dry forests, this unique succulent tree grows upward in spiny, leaf-covered columns, each segment dotted with thick thorns and soft green leaves. When it’s happy, it can grow tall — really tall — and eventually form a tree-like shape indoors or out.
It loves hot, dry air, bright light, and being mostly ignored. In cooler months, it may shed its leaves — don’t panic, it’s just going into dormancy and saving energy for the dry season.
🪴 Bigfoot’s Tip: Keep this one away from curious hands and paws. It’s sharp, dramatic, and totally worth it.
Light: Full sun
Water: Let soil dry completely between waterings; reduce in winter
Care Level: Moderate (due to height + thorns)
Pet Safe?: No (mildly toxic + spiny)
Plant Family: Didiereaceae
