Begonia Rex
Begonia Rex
This plant will ship potted.
Commonly Known as: Polka Dot Begonia
Care Information: Bright, indirect light. Higher light levels will promote strong growth and even flowering, but avoid direct sunlight. Keep the soil generally moist, letting the top few centimeters of soil dry out between watering. Will not tolerate soggy soil. A light houseplant potting mix is ideal. Add perlite if drainage is insufficient. Once the Begonia starts growing in spring, fertilize with an all-purpose, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer every two to four weeks while the plant is actively growing. High humidity is important for begonias, over 45% ideally. It can be misted but prefers indirect humidity. If your Begonia is getting leggy to shape it a bit, you can pinch it back. Pinching and pruning your Begonia will help create a fuller and bushier plant. New stems will grow from where you prune. If your plant grows too tall, the best time to prune and maintain height is in late autumn. This is the end of the active growing season. The plant is done flowering and slows down over winter. Check if the roots are poking out of the drainage holes of the pot. A repotting in the spring is generally needed.
Origin: Brazil
Hardiness: The Begonia performs best with indoor temperatures ranging between 18°C to 30°C

Plant Appearance & Sizing
Plant Appearance & Sizing
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grown in, depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next and display color, shape, and growth variation based on the current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
